TikTok May Get Banned in the USA

There have been talks of the China based social media platform being banned in the USA. It is already out of India, Australia, and Japan is considering banning the app as well. TikTok pulled itself out of Hong Kong. The reason being is for its privacy issues. You may think, "well, all social media platforms can access our information if they wanted to!" The difference is, China's terms of agreement states that they OWN our information if we opt into their platform. They also sensor a lot of free speech.

Now I think that TikTok will find a way to stay in the USA, as noted in their video this morning to the users on the platform. There is talk of Microsoft making a play to buy TikTok. If that happens, then all the matters of censoring and invasion of privacy in the US will be addressed and it's okay. But until then, be informed of what it means to use the platform.

If TikTok does get banned in the US,  fret not. Pivot! Get on or back to other social media platforms!

All the gossip about Facebook being dead is absolutely not true. Facebook and Facebook owned platforms (that includes Instagram and WhatsApp) are killing it with the number of active users. Facebook is still number 1! Look at the number of active users on these platforms!

If you love TikTok's video editing and creating features, be ready to try Facebook's version called, Reels! Much like how Facebook took Snapchat's idea and implemented Stories and took Twitter's Periscope idea to birth Facebook Live, Facebook created Reels and has already strategically launched it in countries where they don't have TikTok. That's right! India and Australia already have Reels!

​Ultimately, as long as you use social media be aware that this can happen to you at any time. You don't own your social media accounts! You're basically just renting space and at any time you can get evicted! I recommend backing up all of your content so you have the original copies. Build a website where you can share your content! Another tip is to have your followers subscribe to your newsletter. You'll always have their contacts and you can keep in touch with them that way. Don't underestimate the power of email marketing.
